Origins of an Art House

The magic of freedom in Võrumaa

The story of the creation of Kavadi Art House dates back decades. Artist Peeter Kaasik discovered the magical Võrumaa in South Estonia more than 50 years ago, being part of a group of artists and a unique hippie commune who fled the restrictive state power of the time deep into the forests of South Estonia. A large number of young artists, writers and other creative people gathered in Kütiorg with well-known artist Valdur Ohakas. Many of his students found their own safe haven in Võrumaa, as did Peeter Kaasik, who after a long search found this place by Lake Kavadi, which was just the right place. In order to make the ancient house suitable for living, a lot of work followed, which continues to this day.

To create geometric and abstract paintings, Peeter Kaasik has created a very characteristic painting style , where colors are mixed with geometric objects in an intriguing and dizzying kaleidoscopic play. Kaasik's paintings are influenced by optical art and reflect his skills in presenting the interrelationships of colors . What is unique is that the final result depicted in abstract paintings is already planned in the first phases of the work.

Nature has spoken to Peeter Kaasik a lot since he was young . As a young man, he spent his days, from morning to evening, by the sea, looking at the sea, the sky, and the horizon, and this is also reflected in his paintings, many of which hold nature in a special place.
Peeter Kaasik's works can be found in the collection of the Estonian Art Foundation and in private collections across Estonia and the world , including in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Great Britain, Canada, the United States and China.
